Our Osmo Furniture Finish
Celebrate the grain with a natural furniture finish designed to protect
At Bombora Custom Furniture, we celebrate the natural beauty of timber by finishing our pieces with Osmo, a hard-wearing and non-toxic blend of natural oils and waxes.
Unlike stains that mask the grain, an Osmo finish enhances the wood’s natural tone while protecting it from spills, moisture and UV discolouration.

To stain or not to stain?
When choosing or designing a new piece of timber furniture, colour is one of the most important considerations. With the right guidance on wood selection, you can achieve the tones and look you want for your home without the need for stain.
We recommend avoiding stains, as they can compromise the longevity of your furniture. Stains often wear unevenly over time or change colour when exposed to sunlight. If the surface is ever damaged, a stained finish also makes repairs far more difficult. By letting the natural timber speak for itself, you gain both beauty and durability.
Why Osmo?
An advantage that Osmo has over many other furniture finish products is that it enhances rather than distorts the natural tones of the timber.
It creates a wet look, that enhances the natural tones and sharpens the grain lines. On all of our furniture, unless otherwise requested by our clients, we use the Matte Osmo Polyx product with no sheen.
Touching the timber of your furniture should be an enjoyable tactile experience.
Osmo is a product that sinks into the timber rather than creating a layer over the top. When the finish is touched, it feels silky with the texture of the timber coming through rather than plastic.
Once dry, the Osmo finish is safe for humans and animals and is even suitable for children's toys which is vital for items such as a dining table.
An Osmo furniture finish is low VOC so will not pollute the air in your home.
Osmo is a product that is a combination of plant-based oils and waxes. The oils penetrate the timber for nourishment whilst creating a deep layer of protection.
The waxes sit on the surface to create a breathable layer that is resistant to water and stains such as wine, coffee and juice.
As well as a timber furniture finish, Osmo is also a flooring finish. Designed to be long-lasting a high-performing, your furniture will be well protected.
Furniture is meant to be used not just looked at and so will inevitably get a scratch or two over time. An advantage of an Osmo finish is that it can be renovated. In the case of a minor scratch, an application of the liquid wax cleaner or polyx oil will make it disappear before your eyes.
In the case of more major damage, the scratched area can be spot-sanded and the finish re-applied. With other finishes such as a 2-pack polyurethane finish, the whole piece would need to be professionally sanded back and refinished.
Life is meant to be enjoyed, not spent polishing furniture. In most homes, a high-use surface like a dining table only needs a wipe over with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner every three months.
For regular cleaning, use Osmo Wash and Care, a concentrated solution diluted in a spray bottle to clean while protecting the finish.
Both products are available separately or in our maintenance kit.
