Osmo Timber Finish
Protecting and enhancing the beauty of timber with an Osmo wood finish
At Bombora, we honour our native Australian timbers by using a natural furniture finish that enhances rather than hides the beauty of the timber. The Osmo natural oil and wax furniture finish is hardwearing, easy care and non-toxic. The finish soaks into the wood for deeper protection and leaves it still feeling like real timber.

A timber finish designed for life
Osmo is the finish we trust to protect all of our timber furniture, wooden vanities and solid wood doors. Also widely used as a flooring finish, Osmo is made to be hardwearing, easy to care for, and resistant to everyday stains like wine and water.
Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed, not spent polishing your furniture. In a typical home, even high-use surfaces such as dining tables and vanities only need a top-up with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner every 3–6 months.

A fixable timber finish
Furniture is made to be lived with, not just looked at and over time, a scratch or two is inevitable. One of the key advantages of an Osmo finish is that it’s completely renovatable.
For minor scratches, a quick application of Liquid Wax Cleaner or Polyx Oil will make them virtually disappear. For more significant marks, the area can be lightly spot-sanded and the polyx finish reapplied. By contrast, with a 2-pack polyurethane finish, the entire piece would need to be sanded back and refinished by a professional.
Osmo finish FAQ
Osmo polyx is also a floor finish so it is designed to be hardwearing.
The Osmo finish resists liquids and stains such as wine, coffee and juice. The finish needs to be correctly maintained in order to remain protected from liquids.
Most of our timber furniture and joinery pieces are finished with Osmo polyx matte. Depending on our client’s preferences, we may use an Osmo RAW layer in blonde timbers such as American Oak or Blackbutt as this counteracts the natural yellow undertone.
Osmo is made from a combination of plant based oils and waxes.
To stay resistant to stains, Osmo finished timber needs to be cared for correctly.
The only product safe to use to clean the surface is the Osmo Spray Cleaner.
The stain-resistant barrier needs to be topped up by Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner.
Outdoor pieces such as a wooden front door need to have the Osmo UV Protect finish reapplied.
We recommend using a quality mircofibre roller to apply the Osmo product.
- Apply 1st coat of Osmo Oil with a microfiber roller.
- Allow 24hrs to dry
- Apply a 2nd coat of Osmo with a microfiber roller.
- Allow 24hrs to dry
- Hand sand the surface with 500 grit sandpaper to remove any bumps in the finish.
- Apply a coat of Osmo with the roller then wipe it off with a clean rag along the direction of the grain.
Ensure that no water is allowed on the surface for at least 2 weeks to allow the finish to cure.
