Bellbrae Hinterland Project

  • The beauty of the natural world brought inside this modern rural property with timber joinery

  • Column

The owners of this beautiful house in the hinterland of the Victorian Surf Coast chose Messmate wood to repeat throughout the interior design of their home to create continuity in their spaces.

The warmth of the wooden joinery items is the perfect contrast for the concrete flooring and masonry used throughout the design of the home. The black sapline features of the Messmate timber are highlighted by the pops of black throughout the design of the home.

Timber Bench Top

Blackbutt timber was used to create these beautiful hardwood kitchen benchtops. This native Australian timber is warm brown in tone and very hardwearing. The black of the kitchen cabinetry highlights the subtle black sap line patterns in the wooden bench top.

With a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living, the wood ties together other elements of the space such as the fireplace cabinetry and the timber mud room cabinetry.

Timber Doors

Blackbutt timber cladding seamlessly flows into wooden doors along the second living space in this home. The solid internal doors are excellent at dampening sound and retaining heat.

The select grade Blackbutt is a beautiful creamy tone and has minimal black sapline markings. These timber doors tie together with other joinery elements visible in the space such as timber wooden bench tops in the adjoining kitchen.

Timber vanities

Beautiful Blackbutt was chosen by the client for their timber bathroom vanities. This hardwood Australian timber is a warm light brown tone and features lovely subtle grain patterns. This is a select-grade timber so there are minimal sap line markings creating a contemporary aesthetic. The warmth of these wooden vanities is a beautiful contrast to the grey tile and polished concrete floors.

Timber fireplace surround

With an open-plan living space in this Victorian Surf Coast home, it was visually important for the large joinery features of the space to complement each other.

The timber joinery was created from Australian hardwood timber Blackbutt because of its hardiness and subtle grain pattern. The configuration of the timber fireplace cabinetry was designed by the client to perfectly fit the items they wanted to display and to store.

Timber Mudroom Joinery

Crafted from Messmate timber, this timber cabinetry is the focal point in the entryway of the home. Located in a stunning bush setting, a functional storage space is a necessity in this home. The mudroom cabinetry was designed to have plenty of places to put boots, coats and hats, as well as a seating area.

The warmth of wooden joinery is a beautiful contrast to the concrete floor and masonry in this room. Visible from the open plan kitchen and living area, it was vital to the client that this functional space was also beautiful.
